I can't believe all the recent released phones dont come in 850 north american versions like the K700 and K500 etc. These are otherwise awesome phones but without the much needed 850mhz in the US, it makes them somewhat worthless as a phone. I love my K700i very much but dont think i could put up with the No network message anymore and there really isnt a good alternative out there....
SE needs to get their act together and release some more 850 versions of their phones to keep us north americans happy. Im sure most of my fellow NA'ans can vouch for that.

The most likely reason that SE don't produce more mobiles with support for 850 MHz is that North America is not their biggest or their most important market. As demand grows in North America I imagine that SE will increase the number of products for the North American market.

North America could do with some more SE phones, the standard of mobile phone in North America isn't all that high in my opinion. For example, I was recently in New York and some of the phones people were using were, quite frankly, awful looking things. There seems to be a great fondness for over sized black clamshells with extractable aeriels.
The strange thing is that the mobile phone shops I looked in do carry a few smart looking phones with decent features, but it would see that not too many people choose to buy them. Without being rude, do most Americans buy domestic brands out of a sense of patriotism or are they just cheaper or more widely available?

Even so, some of the phones I have seen being used in the U.S. were just awful; I can just imagine the look the sales assistant would get if a customer was offerred some of those phones in Europe. CDMA or not, one would think that a little thought and care would be put into phone design.

My experience from USA showed me that 99.9% of people are getting their phones from their carriers. People there are not very well educated about mobile phones.
Only the gadget freeks know what GSM and unlocked phones mean, and these people can go online and get a P900 or any other model that is not offered by the USA carriers.
As mentioned above, most SE phones have no luck in the USA market if there are not sold by the carriers.
And now about the 850Mhz, I am not sure why you complain. P900a and S710 are on the way. Don't forget that from the almost 1.1 billion GSM subscribers worldwide, North America has only 42.3 million which is great compared to the 23 a year ago, but still is a very small share compared to the global one. Out of the 42.3 million GSM subscribers, most of them use 1900Mhz instead of the new 850Mhz. Almost all phones that SE produces are tribbands, so both Americans can use them, and also the rest of the world when they visit USA. Just remember that 2-3 years ago there were barely tri-band phones, most phones were dual bands 900/1800Mhz and they had a special version with just the 1900Mhz for the USA. Now what they did is they have two versions of tribands the 850/1800/1900 for North America and the 900/1800/1900 for the rest of the world. I think that the next step is to make all phones quad bands like the new Motorolas. This will solve the problem one and for all.
North America is doing good in the expansion of the GSM. TDMA is dying, and I hope that the same happens to the CDMA...

3 in the UK use WCDMA and they offerr roaming in Japan.
