It's great for business if you're selling technology/IT solutions!

Mass production's only casulty is the quality. A pc is old after 6 month and the material they use is cheap, so its not only the system, the equipment suffer of it aswell. This message was posted from a T630

also one must consider the enviromental issues here.
this constant upgrading of technology creates obsolete machines which have to be disposed of and are often left in landfill sites to rot (or not with some materials).
just a little side issue to consider for you there mate

It depends on whether you are a buyer or a seller.

I think its a balanced essay, with arguments both for and against, then a personal conclusion?

hmm...
good points...
technology is the great leveller,.. faster integration into the community...which provides jobs...increases productivity.... makes the world a smaller place..leads to exchange of ideas and information... which means 3rd world countries can leapfrog generations of older technology and can adopt the newer systems with ease and quickly...

bad points
technology too fast leads to... confusion over what standardization to use...high prices as a result of not optimizing the production cycles... a human component "is it really helpful or is it another annoying invention"... backward compatibility with older technologies sometimes overlooked... obvious environmental issues which include hazardous waste management...

conclusion.. your own

does this help?

@plasmadog - well put! Another little thought - are smaller countries, like the UK, better and quicker at adapting to new technology than much larger sized countries like the US? e.g. when going from analogue to digital mobile networks, there would physically be less masts to replace/upgrade here in the UK than there would in the US, for example.
