is there any way of removing the network operator name from the t68i screen. I've got a lovely background with a rather naff UK Vodafone stamped across it

Nope not unless the area of the background covered by the operator logo is plain, in which case you can use one of the theme editors that will allow this, to change the colour of the operator text and it's outline to the same colour as the area of the background which it covers, this is, as far as i know, the only way!
