You’ve all seen my Sonyericsson vs. Ericsson charger test which is
here.
Now it’s time to really sort the two out. The only natural progression from a charger test is a battery test!
I’ve managed to locate a Sonyericsson battery, and an Ericsson battery from a local scrap yard (it’s amazing what you can find there, I dumped my
dead dog there the other day)
I used a T630 phone for testing:
So, onto the review:
Round 1 – Stats
The Sonyericsson battery is 3.6V and powers along at 770mAh.
The Ericsson battery is also 3.6V but only has 570mAh.
I know which battery I’d like to be using when the next boy racer pulls up to me at the lights.
770mAh all the way. 1-0 to Sonyericsson vrooooooooooooooooom!
Round 2 – Style
The Sonyericsson battery has a sticker on the back, and is rather rectangular shaped. It has ridges on the edges and a sticker on the back. This sticker not only has a Sonyericsson hologramiphic bit, but has pictures of what not to do with the battery. One of the pictures is a rather cute baby. I can only presume this means “Don’t feed batteries to babies”. Seeing as I never listen to rules and whatnot, I might try feeding a child some batteries and see what really happens (I’ll post results here no doubt)
The Ericsson battery is also rectangular in shape and has a big sticker on either side. The lack of interesting pictures and ridges really lets this battery down, there’s a guide on how to insert it into a T66, but seeing as I’m not using a T66, it has no use. A plus side over the Sonyericsson battery is that it has red bits on, so Ericsson must have splashed out on printing. No ridges though, and I really like the ridges.
Point’s go to Sonyericsson for the comedy baby. 2-0
Round 3 – Size and weight
The Sonyericsson fits perfectly into the back of the T630 test phone. I’m starting to think maybe it was designed for this purpose, but who knows.
Lemme go get a ruler, I need to measure these things…
Right, I’m back. I got some scales too!
The Sonyericsson battery is 60mm x 35mm x 5mm (width x depth x height) which makes a total of 10,500 cubic millimetres. The Ericsson is only 55mm x 32mm x 4mm which is 7,040 cubic millimetres. The Ericsson is 3460 smaller and this shows in the weight. It is 4grams lighter than the Sonyericsson, weighing in at 15g as opposed to the Sonyericsson’s 19g.
The Ericsson wins this on easily. 2-1 to Sonyericsson!
Round 4 – Battery life
You may have seen the results on the charger thread. Sonyericsson easily won the round of charge times. This is similar to the battery life of the batteries.
Sonyericsson – 5days 4hours 32mins
Ericsson – 1day 12hours 04mins
I did both tests from a full charge, with Bluetooth, IR, GPRS all turned off. I didn’t use the phones at all except when I was testing the Ericsson, I had to use Bluetooth for 4 hours to play Bluetooth games with a friend, and I took 3hours 30mins worth of phone calls. Overall I think it was a fair test of the battery life.
Sonyericsson take another round 3-1!
Conclusion
I found that the Sonyericsson battery wins again. Now it’s beaten Ericsson in yet another test, I can only presume that it was Sony’s input into the phones that has made them better.
P.S. For those who don’t believe that an Ericsson battery can fit in a T630 and work,
here’s proof[ This Message was edited by: MixiN on 2004-09-25 14:28 ]

@MixiN
Another fair and accurate test; I'm flabbergasted that SE has not offerred you a job in R&D.

@mixin wouldnt it be easier to make a topic with the title: i dont like /// - who is with me? I do respect what u are doing with such tests, cos it takes time and energy, so its honoured, but dont get the real point u are heading for.

deathstaruk2 - Good to see you can point out a nice light hearted thread from a deadly serious one. If you read the thread you'd see that i am actually taking the mick.
boba - i don't not like ericsson. They were great at making mobile phones. I'm just having a bit of fun, and generally taking the mick out of the way some people see ericsson as god around here
