> K700i a poor phone?

in two mos. tym k700i's price dropped by 1/4 in the philippines that from 25,000 to 18,000 Php. and i've already noticed some owner's selling the phone when it's relatively new. y is dat? any comments coz i've thinking if i should buy d phone or w8 4 either d s700 or p910.

k700i. is a very very very veryu very very very good phone. if you plan to buy it tho, please please please! make sure the phone is not branded with vodafone or orange or t mobile, as they change the original phones uniqique features and change the really nice icons into horrid vodafone ones in menus. i bought it on vodafone brand and am regretting it cos i cannot update the firmware on the sony site (vodafone stopped this) and the theme red does my head in. and their icons.
but the phone is still top notch, camera quality is exellent , has a flash light, and the screen is amaziing. games it can play are 3d, and it comes with an mp3 player. jus dont buy it on vodafone cos they will not let you use mp3s as ringtones. i cannot update my phone to original cos they found out i unlocked the phone onto o2, do not make the same mistake i did! by the way, any one who knows how to get rid of the vodafone crap and update the phone successfully, please reply on the topic "ok i am stupid and made the worst mistake...". its there somewhere.

if you don't like the K700, chances are you won't like the S700 either. They are the same internally, just stuck in a different housing and with one major difference which is the camera.

Depends on what you're after. If you want a small phone, and can compromise on screen and camera, get yourself a K700. The S700 is just a bigger version of the K700 with a better screen and camera. In any case, the K700 is a fantastic phone.

This is what happens when tech advances. U can't stop it no matter what. Yeah,excellent phone-that's why i'll skip it in favour of the s700 or it's equivalent in other brands.

The K700 is a good phone, if you look at the specs and the hardware. However, I can come up with many software/firmware details that makes other manufacturers like Nokia look like a better alternative. This is a list of the flaws I've found, somewhat ordered by significance:
* You can't use your own sounds for sms alerts, email alerts or instant messaging (wireless village) alerts. All of them use one of 6 built-in (lame) sounds. Ideally, you should be able to specify different signals for all of these three message types. Even better, you should be able to assign different sounds for different people in your contact list, just as you can with the ringtone.
* The Wireless Village implementation sucks. It doesn't frequently poll for new messages. It can take up to one hour before you receive a message sent by your buddy. You can't configure this. The workaround is to send message to your buddies, because the phone will automatically look for new msgs when you send one.
* You can't search for contacts in your contact book. If you have, say, 30 names starting with A, you have to scroll down to the one you want. You can't start typing the first two or three characters of the name to get there instantly. This makes the phone very inefficient if you have a large contact list.
* You can only have 4 shortcuts. In T610, you had a dedicated menu in which you could add many shortcuts to. In the K700, you can only use the four directions of the joystick. It's not even entirely possible to use the number shortcuts in the menus. For example, the data counter requires you to use the joystick to switch to another tab, which isn't mapped by a number key. You just have to use one of the 4 shortcuts for that feature if you use it often.
* I haven't yet found one Java game that supports multiplayer via Bluetooth. With the T300, T310, T610, T630 and Z600, you could challenge your friends with minigolf or five stones. In the K700, you can't. Not even against other K700 users.
Other small things that Sony Ericsson just haven't put enough thought into:
* It's not possbile to turn on the speaker phone before the call is connected. This is very inconvenient, as you have to wait until the other person answers before you can use your hands freely. Sony Ericsson, attach the feature to the Camera button above the volume buttons!
* The phone book can't store the person's birth date. This would be very useful, especially if you could set the phone up to automatically alert you say 3 days prior to a birthday, as well as on the actual birthday. You would then have time to buy a present and not forget the day.
* It's hard to make a good background image, becuase the screen space is split up into parts that belongs to the current theme and the actual desktop background. You have to create your own theme (using PC software) in order to use the full screen space.
* Compared to how fast you can type messages in an old Nokia (using [*] key to switch to next T9 word suggestion and with a static word order), typing on the K700 is painfully slow.
* Since the battery discharges so quickly, why didn't they make it an option to use a less brighter backlight? I find the dimmed light when the keypad is locked to be perfectly enough for most situations. When playing games before going to bed, the current backlight is even too bright. So it would save both the battery and your eyes if you could dim the backlight a notch.
* It's not possible to change the font size as was possible on the old T300. The K700 has a brilliant screen, yet you normally have no means of showing more than 7 lines of text. Some Java applications and some web pages support smaller fonts, but you can't specify a smaller default font in the phone or in the web browser.
* You can specify to look for new e-mail messages periodically, but there's no way of automatically turning that feature off depending on the profile. For example, I don't want it to look for new messages when I'm home, only when I'm at work or whatever.
* You can choose among lots of date formats, but not the SI standard? Weird...
Edit: I forgot to say that despite all these firmware flaws, I absolutely love my K700! I just hope that Sony Ericsson would listen to their customers and fix their poor software.

the K700 is the best phone ever!
I downloaded the "Outeenee" screem from the jawas in star wars episode 4 and it makes a very funny ringtone(if anyone wants it)
the only bad points are simply physical:
-the chrome paint on the camera level is going
-the sticker felt and the whole look is changed(I prefer with the sticker hoping I will find one in a SE center)
-batterie life is not poor but still not enough

Wonder how long it will be before 3rd party software is available for mobiles - that's when the real fun will start
