> Loading battery first time, true or false?

I've heard several people say different things when buying a new phone.
"Load it many hours first, then use it", "it doesn't matter how long you use it", "load it many hours but you can have it on while loading it" etc...
My questions:
Is it necessary to load it those hours?
How do you do with the loading-deal when you have a new phone?

The manufacturer, Sony Ericsson, who built the phone and wrote the manual suggests initial charge should be 4 hours and this is written in the manuals.
personally I think people worry far too much about this topic of battery longevity given the modern technology compared to the batteries of 5 years ago or more when consideration was required due to the technology and cost of replacement batteries of that time

Off mode charging is more effective, but u should get used the fone to on or off mode, once this and once that isnt liked by batts in my experiences.

Out of the box whilst still in the shop, SIM and battery in, turn it on and look through the menues. Out in the car, wack it in the charger and leave it there till I go home.
My new phones never get a propper charge up before I go to bed that first evening and I've never had problems with battery life on any of my phones.
As Masseur said, people are way too nervous about this issue.
Do what the manual recomends (even though I don't), at least then it won' woid the warranty.

i too think it doesn't make a big difference though i don't know about other manuals but here we get a huge yellow sticker (on the manual) that says you MUST charge 16hours before first use.... i always followed that procedure but i don't think it's really necessary.....
oh and i didn't had any problems with the battery not even on the k700

in any case I too never charge the battery for hours on end, instead i charge it whilst playing with it until I can't wait any longer, then wait till it's completely empty and then do a full charge. Not at all ok according to the books and manuals but my batteries have never suffered because of this.
