> RAM at startup!
Bookmark topic
Hi p900 users sorry if this topic has already been done.jus want to ask how much RAM you guys get at startup because i get varying amounts most of the time.once my fones booted up i load sman n check the RAM. sumtimes it says 45% and then wen i load my snapshot it drops dwn to 40-42% even tho my snapshot shows only sman is running, which is wierd.
typically i get around 40% RAM at startup. sumtimes more n sumtimes less.wot RAM u guys getting?

I've posted elsewhere about my complaints about increasing free ram:
I found that out of the box I was getting between 5 and 6mb free.
However, using sman, if you use the p800 theme, remove any unnecessary programs running on startup (eg bugmenot uses a "server" program running in the background) and disable any unnecessary text input programs (i disable jot), i can get just under 8mb on boot without difficulty.
You might want to consider using the p910 firmware to get more free memory on boot.
FYI: i've found that running ANY third party text input program (eg popontop keyboard, seethru, ezitap) significantly effects performance - not memory so much, but updating screen etc is slower. Using my vjnina.ttf font doesn't have much effect on memory (only about 50-100k) and seems _faster_ to some people.
Hope that helps!
Vijay
PS - some people get annoyed about people posting messages in "txt" speak...

According to SMan 1.3a, I am getting about 42% at startup and about 44% after I kill the 'Messages' process and compress RAM.
I don't know how many MB this is, but I assume it is approx. 5 or so, since I have about 10.5MB free on 'C:'.

Hi dekesh,
The p800 theme is built into the phone (i think) - to access it, load sman, and go to fn > utilities > p900 to p800. It does no harm, just uses the theme built into the rom (i presume), since it disables themes and uses some ugly ass one instead. however, for the extra memory it's worth it.
For p910 firmware - read the thread on this board, something like "Amazing, p900 > p910 possible". I haven't seen anyone doing it in india yet, but you need to buy or find someone with a sf fighter lead (about 300USD i think, not cheap) to do the conversion. And you will lose bluetooth on the phone.
However, i don't think the firmware conversion is worth that money if you just want a couple of extra megabytes of memory. as i said, i went from about 4.6mb to 7.8mb at startup using my tips.
if you're really tight for memory, remove all photo's stored with your contacts, all extra ring tones, use p800 theme, and reset phone fairly often - px00 "leaks" memory when you close programs, so it needs resetting often to recover full memory.
If you've got >6mb free memory, you should be able to run anything you need to. Later, buy a p910 or do the firmware update, but these tips should help for now.
