Does anyone know how to or even if it's possible to change the characters on the virtual keyboard?
I would dearly love to replace the @ symbol with a ' for instance on the 'abc' section...
It must be in one of the files on there, just hopefully not on the A or Z rom areas...

That kind of thing is almost certainly in the ROM Drives so there will be no way to change it.
Guess u just have to switch to the '123' set for the ' unfortunately.
I find the handwriting much faster myself!

There are some alternative on-screen keyboards available. One of which has a built-in word predicting feature, and the other is a see-through one that covers the whole screen, so that the 'keys' are bigger. Maybe these have better character layouts or some level of customisation.
I'm afraid I'm too lazy to find the names and links for these, so do some searches, or maybe someone nicer than me will post some links!

The predictive one is called EziTap I think.
Another name I remember is pop-on-top keyboard
