I was sent one, it marked it as "wav" as it does for mp3 or mp4 but didn't play. Tried it on 2 phones

Statisticly, no, and it really can't play lots of .wav files, but I've downoaded some .wav files that worked, but I couldn't 'use' them.

It can only play WAV files if the sample rate of it is 16kHz or less

Wav files can be used as ringtones.you cannot do it from the filemanager,but it can be done from the contacts options.
