> P800 unlocking from T-mobile network

My contract with T-mobile will end in November. I found the P800 mobile very useful. Wish to use it on another network but i found only T-mobile sim card will work.
How easy is it to unlock the P800?
I have done a search but all i found was last years post which says i need to have a special cable etc etc while someone says you can simply input a code.
Found a shop in Nottingham, UK who will unlock it for £10. Is it safe or will i lose all data etc

it's safe if they know what there doing. T-mobile will unlock it for £15 all done via phone and mail. some on line sites offer it as well but you need a t28 data cable so it will end up costing you more. plus those services are sometime unreliable via dial up.
