> Phones of the future - the V800

I love the V800 because it is so advanced. It has an endless array of features and is showing the way ahead as far as european technology goes.
However, I would like you guys to check out the
www.nttdocomo.com link on the news section of this site to see what this company is up to. Check out the Handset gallery (and the amazing Flash presentations).
Their latest handsets are boasting features such as 2 mp cameras, mobile wallet, fingerprint recognition, barcode shopping, remote locking etc.
Do you think these features will ever catch on in the european market?
How long do you think it will take for this technology to reach the West?

no idea when they will be made for us though...... i suppose when we reach the point where the price we are willing to pay becomes acceptable

I think I may have to move to Japan (or at least visit).
With the V800 being Tri band and able to hook up to 3G services anywhere, they have really brought out the very first global 3G handset. They seem unstoppable at the moment.
This handset is not exclusive to vodaphone. It will be available to other networks 2-3 months after the Vodaphones launch. Vodaphone is keen to "start shifting handsets for Christmas".
Congratulations to SE for bringing out a winning 3g handset.

I am saying that the Far East seems to be so much more advanced as far as mobile communications are concerned, by 2-3 years if not more.
Where 3G services are only just taking off in Europe, in Japan it has been there for years..so if you want to see how our mobile technologies are going to develop then looking at Japan's might give you a good indication.

FYI the Motorola A925 is also tri-band + UMTS and has been out for months and the upcoming A1000 is just as "global" as that...

Definitely!!! If you've ever been to Japan, you'll see that most, if not all their technology takes at least a few months to "filter" down to us. Their phones are years ahead, and so are their networks.

One thing you guys forget about Japan is that the consumer's mentality is totally different from that in the west. People love to try new technology, they don't mind buying a product thats just released, they dont have the "fear" of new tech and the fact that their new toy may be obsolete in a few months is a non-issue to them. They tend to look at the potential of a product ('what does it do?') rather than the limitations. Also, in Japan, we are talking about a large % of the consumers not just some micro-niche of techno-geeks! Actually the women/girls are a huge market.
All this means that manufacturers can bring new products to market much faster than in the west, and that they can bring costs down given the volume of users.
