And rightly so! Damn our North American markets and their, to use a crappy Quebecois phrase, "vive la difference". 850mhz that is...
I love SE and I love my T637... but am desperate for a high end clamshell like the v800 in 850mhz. Will it ever happen? Not bloody likely. There is no K700 in a 850mhz in sight. As for my fellow Canadians who say "Go with Fido"... argh. Fido is terrible mobile company.
I suppose the S710a will be my next SE phone even though I'm not wild about the flip. To all of you out there who live in a 900mhz zone... damn you!

Eventhough I live in part of the contry, San Francisco Bay Area, where 1800 is still working fine. So I have SE Z600 and I just bought me a P910 last week, so I can use them while traveling, and with Cingular here and it's been working fine. But no deals with the providers as THEY don't carry any 900 phones not even in triband, so we have to buy them at full prices....DAMMM IT.

850mhz phones will be more if the market develops fast, now is a little piece of the cake, so just T637 and T616 for it, just be patience, soon you'll be on mayor league.

yea man.... i dont know why american... wants all their uniqe freqeuncy, uniqe phones, phones in america cant be use in any other continent due to sim card, their own celebrities, even overseas music videos have to be made again juz to enter american market... man... blend in with the world america... werz the love.. hehehe... wonder what happen if i've bought V800 and go to america?? Probably hv to stick with roaming...

I don't understand why they don't make quadband phones or make the phones configurable - something like the 110-220v switch.
It could of course be that in the usa the 900mhz band is used for something else.

I believe the explanation i found for the 850 mHz frequency is that the 900 mHz frequency was too similar to a radio frequency used by a government run organization like the Firefighters or Coast Guard or something like that. The FCC passed some law about the issue to the best of my knowledge. T-Mobile still offers phones that have the 900 band, but don't have any sites for it. AT&T used to use the 900 band I think, and Cingular was the first provider to offer 850.
This is what I can remember off the top of my head. I will try to verify this info.

even though CDMA may have a 900-1800 mHz frequency, it does not guarantee that they have the same amplitude as GSM. The two systems are not likely to interfere, since WCDMA and GSM coexist elsewhere in the world.
