i got a Motorola A835, when i put in mu Virgin mobile sim card it asks for a Subsidy code? what is this.....i can find anything in the manual about it.

As far as I know, a subsidy code is a code that your provider has entered into the fone, to prevent you from using it on any other networks, than for example Vodafon... Call your provider and ask him.. usually your phone is locked to a specific network for about 12 months...

i see...it was a present, so i'll have to find out how old it is. I did sum quick research (by research i mean scrolling down pages and pages of google) and apparantly 3 charge £100! but i'm not sure if thats within the 12 months.

well it is a PAYG 3 mobile. it has "3" on the box and on the startup screen...tried my virgin sim, no luck. so i think i can deduce the network provider is 3!
