When im typing a message (sms) in my p800 the limit for one send is 160 characters. is there anyway to extend this? some cheap phones or new phones have extended messaging and can go to 160+

can p800 do this?

Are you sure about the 200+ I belivet the limit was set by the net providers. Ore way isn't there a phone ther can do 500 in one sms? I had a P800 and did a 18 long sms (18*160) to a T68 it came as one. No problem there. This message was posted from a K700i

It depends whether the receiving phone and network supports extended messaging. For example, If I send from a p800 to a t68i a message 212 characters in lenght, it will appear as one extra-long sms (the sender must still pay for 2). However, if I sent that same sms to an older phone (3310 or sumthing) then it may appear as 2 sms in the inbox.

Kepp in mind that you pay for one sms every 160 characters you use up, so be conservative.......

Also depends on the receiving phone.

and 2 SMS'es on a P900 is 306 chars, not 320 chars, 3 SMS'es is 456 not 480

seems like it eats some characters to blend the SMS'es together

And I noticed some special characters will eat up quite some SMS 'credit', eg: you have 100 chars left, enter a special char like â and all of a sudden it drops to 70 left!

Makes sense sorta.. If it's not a standard character then sms protocol won't let it through, so it has to be expressed by using a few characters. For example, when there is an html document on pc with spaces in it, notice in explorer it comes up as something%20somethingelse.html? That "%20" represents the space.

errmmm, im not so sure about this. just tested it out and each 'weird' character only takes 1 space.

each SMS is also 160 characters, if you send an sms which is over 160 characters it wil send as two (or more) and it will ask for conformation prior to sending. as someone else mentioned only old or simple fones will break up extended SMS's. if it is recieved on a new fone it will appear as one message, but you will stil pay for every 160 character block.

(...quite frankly im not sure why anyone is even asking this question, its fully outlined in the fone manual and ur network provision contract)
