This is going to sound odd but if we can leave aside my ethics for a minute can anyone tell me how to do the following on p800/p910i, without locking the whole phone.
There are certain pictures in my images folder, which I would rather my kids dont see. However I dont mind them using my phone,in fact in view of the fact I have a lot of free minutes I would want to encourage them to use it when calling mobiles to save the "rallying" of the home phone. Is there any method by which they can use the phone/and or /sms features but not have access to anything else on the phone? A sort of reverse of the flight feature, if you will.

If it is just the pictures, or other seperate files, you want to hide, then here is what to do ; Go to "my_symbian.com" from the phone , go to the UIQ section and look for the incryption programme called JRC4, download it , it is free, then you just encrypt your "secret" files, this way they can only be found - and opened by you, and only with your password.. Easy security .... ;-) This message was posted from a P900

If anything I think some people would do the opposite and be PMing you asking if you could send them any of these images!

there is also "power protect" which hides files/folders and is password protected and Safe v1.41 and LockBox

i am using power protect, which is very good except:
when it is active and you just press jog-back, you go to the apps menu but power protect still works on the background and some1 can access ur files

ways to overcome this:

- ofcourse close the app
- or use sman taskflush option and close the flip

i am not sure if i understood correct ur last

i suggest you download a trial of power protect

then add all the files you want to protect (audio, video, pics and docs), as you see it supports almost all formats

these files will always be protected except of course if you run power protect. there is no way for a third person to run power protect during your absence, as it is password protected, i.e. u have to insert correct password to run the program

what i said is that the only defect of the app is that you have to close it (press exit from menu) when you finished otherwise it keeps running in the background and if it runs in the bground it is fully accessible

Also there is the more simple solution: Go in to filemanager and select the files you do not want to appear, then those hide and your pictures/movies are unseen under pictures or movies, but has to be seen using filemanager which is not very obvius for a kid

Foxhunter, apparently you didn't have kids reprogram de daylights out of your VCR, or worse, your computer.

Security through obscurity is never a good ideea. If it's there, someone will find it. Especially a damned kid.

You could just use SMan (or similar) to create a folder in some obscure location with some obscure name that they might not think to look in... that would be the easiest thing to do in my opinion.
