Hi all,
I was wondering if the P910i needs to be left on for the alarm function to work?
Also, what is the largest capacity MS DUO the P910i will read/write to?
Thanks.

If the P910 is like the P900 (which i think it prolly is) then yes the phone does have to be on for the alarm to work... Well flight mode at least...

the P910 needs to be on or in flight mode for the alarm to work. it will not work with the phone off
Sony ericsson quote 1gb as the maximum duo pro for the P910 but I personally think that larger duo pro, when available, will also work as there is nothing in the duo pro specification that limits it except for the theoretical 32gb maximum for the technology

Really!??
This is stupid! Almost every phone today has a separate circuit for the alarm, so you can turn off the phone to save battery.
This means if I am traveling and I want to save battery turning off the phone at night, I can't use the phone as a wake up alarm!??

Thats correct. Always been that way with the P.. series.
You have to realise its more like a PDA than a phone i.e PocketPC's and the PocketPC phones are never actually off they are just in a standby state. The P900 is similar but uts standby state is effectively automatic (I stand corrected if someone knows better with the newer PDA's).
If you look at the battery meter on your phone just before you go to bed, put it in flight mode, then in morning when your alarm goes off re-look at the battery level & you will be suprised at how little has been used. I've never done a test but would bet that if you left your phone untouched in flight mode it would last ages before the battery died. Bit expensive just to use as an alarm clock though
Mine gets me up every morning without fail

The advantage of "turning off" the PDAs is that they enter a low power & low processor speed mode, and the energy is cut from every device, including one of the most expensive - the screen.
BTW, I heard there is a good difference in power consumption between a full screen white screen saver and a completely black screen saver.
Does this make sense?

Ever happened to you to turn off your phone to go to the movies and in the middle of the film a stupid alarm pops off with a hideous song!?
Already hapened to me ... twice!
So... forget about the wake up alarm, I think I can live without it!
LOL

Thanks for the info everyone. Really appreciate it. I had a feeling that the P910i would also be required to be left on for the alarm to work. That's no biggie...just wanted to be sure.
WOW 1GB!! That's plenty for me.
