i realise these issues may well have been covered buried in other threads, and i've tried to dearch, but as im desperately in need of getting a new phone sorted, i'd be grateful for any help you guys could give.
basically, i was dead set on getting the k700, probably on o2 (i realise they arent allowing online updates right now but i'm hoping this will change, and the main reason for choosing them is apparently they do limited branding/destroying the software?), BUT my concern is that i'm a heavy texter. i subtely stood in a shop the other day mock-texting on the display model to see what it was like, and the buttons seem a little hard to use, especially with nails and the rounded buttons. because the phone wasnt on though, im hoping that maybe they are quite sensitive so it's not so bad? so basically, as a heavy texter, does this phone easily do the job? and is the predictive text any good?
another thing i've come across either here or on exansys forum, was a complaint about the camera 'light'... i had a friend with the Samsung E800, and when out at night, the flash seemed to do a great job. so does anybody know to compare this camera with those of samsungs? i know samsungs are good, but i was thinking maybe that was more to do with better phone displays than real quality?
i'm sorry for all this rambling, i just really dont want to go into a contract and regret it. i was even considering the t630, but only if the texting is going to be a problem, that's my main worry.

I don't find any problem with the buttons but I would suggest you try a working one in a shop to see for yourself.
The predictive text is good and fast, previous models including the t630 were a bit slow but the K7 is much better.
The photolight is ok, better than not having one but for pictures it is only short range like 1meter, it won't light a room.
It's really usefull as a little torch though

I agree with MikLSP. The texting is really easy, but then again i use tw hands as i find it faster and easier. The light is a really cool feature, its not really a flash as u can turn it on for as long as u want, rather than a flash of light. but its a fantastic little thing, i was amazed how bright it was, its maximum range is about a meter as said before, But i love the thing. Buy one!!!!

so, has anyone here with the k700 got longish finger nails? i know this sound ridiculous but my friend made the comment about how typing using your nails would just slip on the keypad.
thank you for the light info, this has definitely settled my mind on that issue.
i assume also that the texting uses t9 predictive?

its an unusual question, i'll give you that! Dont worry about your fingernails slipping on the keypad, my aunt has one and she's got those crazy acrylic falsers, she's never had any problems. ANd if you do find they slip, chew your nails! Very theraputic.

. i'm glad people seem to be finding no trouble with the keypad. i suppose i'm so paranoid about it because since my last smallish phone died, i've been living off the 3410 for about a year, so i've completely forgotten what it's like typing on a phone like that.
i might order it tonight on o2, i just hope they sort out the updating fw issue because i really dont want to get stuck with the bugs.

If you buy it from O2, it doesnt mean you have to get the firmware updated by them, you can have it done at other places too, carphone warehouse for example.

ah, i didnt realise this. i've read so many posts about the hassle with them barring the online service that i just assumed no update could be done. i just hope i wouldnt have problems getting shops to do it when my phone is to be bought through the online tariff therefore i'm not a valued customer anywhere. does anyone know how much it would cost roughly to get the fw updated in a store?

The rubberized keypads on the SE K700/i works just fine with me, as it holds a grip tightly with my sweaty fingers at times when sending an sms, and the rubbery feel just manages not to let my wetty fingers make a slide . . .

thank you. yes that's another thing i was thinking of, because they seemed like they'd be the opposite in those situations. so it's v good to know that when i'm rushing around like mad and texting people that it should be ok. do you happen to know how the speed of texting is?i've read a couple of things saying the predictive isn't very good/too slow?
