@MikLSP
Very helpfull answer you came up with there mate...
What about just
FAQ?
Firmware is, to cut it short, the -ware between soft- and hard-ware.
It's, amongst others, where network providers put their branding in the phones.
One way to check it is to use the Jog Dial and the # keyin the following order; (one click at the time) Jog up # Jog down Jog down # Jog down #
This takes you in to the service menu where the info is stored.

I guess you meant * instead of # ?

Yep star works
JU*JDJD*JD* = Secret Menu 1 (i am sure theres another).
The question i have is how do i get rid of the VODAFONE logo that springs up when i turn the phone on? What does the Genuine SE logo look like at boot (this is before the SIM PIN arrives on screen)?
Also mine is locked to VODAFONE at present which they are working on getting me the pin to unlock it (i can see its locked if you do this JU*JDJD*JD*13, the NETWORK is green and closed).
Many Thanks
Ashley

@SFX Group
Use the search facility; here is one example of the many threads on the subject of unlocking (and there are others on unbranding):
