> K700i on O2 questions

i am now this close to ordering the k700i from o2 (their offer appears to be less good than when i first went to order it, and the best offer seems to be vodafone, but i really dont want a ruined vodabranded phone, and i dont want to ruin my warranty by unbranding it).
SO, basically, i was just wondering if anyone could give me a little detail to the extent of the o2 branding on this phone? i know they dont completely destroy like others do, but have they taken away any functions? or changed the interface etc?
also, ive been told here that you can still get your firmware upgraded on o2 if you take it into a service centre. does anyone have an idea of the cost of this (in uk), and whether this voids your warranty?

the only branding on the phone is a small o2 icon in the top right of the menu, instead of an se symbol, and an animated start-up, shut-down screen. Don't get the voda one as it can't use mp3 ringtones. The firmware update should be free at a SE centre while the phone is in warrenty.
The case is totaly standard, and the quick share + online button havn't been changed unlike t-mobile and orange.

does anyone happen to know what the text storage is on this phone for o2? im unclear about whether the storage is dependent on free space or a fixed number? one of the main reasons for me finally getting a new phone is so i can stop deleting messages constantly.

it is on a fixed space, not the phones memory, seems to hold differenent numbers of messages before it comes full, normally around 65ish.

i used to be able to store 20, then when my phone died i've been living off 10 (in outbox) for about a year. as a heavy texter, this is hard work! is this number for outbox as well?
also, im assuming you're on o2? have you had any bugs with the firmware/updated yours?

yeah i am on o2, not updated. The number of 65 is split between inbox and sent. I havn't noticed any real bugs, battery will only just last 2 days though, but charge everynight, so isn't an issue.

The good things about O2 are:
- The O2 K700 is less branded than any other branded K700 in the UK (minor software branding & no hardware branding)
- The Tarrifs are good for texters. I am on Online Anytime 50 (500 texts, 50 anytime any network mins) for £22.50pm, but for £25pm you get 100mins, which I think is a very good deal.
- O2's Website is pretty godo - you can find out exactly how many minutes and texts you have used so far in the month. It lags by a couple of days, but is much better than nothing.
The bad things are:
- O2 do not currently support SE's Online Update Service, so in order to upgrade the firmware you have to take your phone into a SE Service Centre
- The Customer Services department has been outsourced to India, so don't expect to get any difficuly queries answered! They are OK at sorting out financial issues, but can't deal with questions they are not prepared for - e.g. questions about the K700.
All in all I think O2 are the best bet for SE contract phones in the UK, particularly with the Online deals.

mwarner, i didnt realise the online service also offered a sort of 'where you are now' service. this is great news, i thought i'd have to save some kind of counter message to remind myself of how many texts i had used.
with regards to o2 vs. voda, i think i'm definitely going to go with o2 now, because the voda insurance is much more expensive (altho i really dont know whether the £60/annum is worth it) and i dont really want to go through the hassle of unbranding.
i have NO idea where any SE centres are here up north though, so i think i'll just have to hope i can a remotely unproblematic fw when i order this. buckle247, i think i'd be updating nightly, so it shouldnt bother me either.
and yes the online tariffs do seem very good with o2, im just swaying between the 200 and 100 mins tariffs, 100 really doesnt seem quite enough but im worried about committing myself to £30pm. now you can choose a more minutes/less texts option for the same prices, but the texts on this option are far too little.
have since remembered though (i cant believe i forgot this fact) that i dont have my proper bank account set up yet and so cant actually set up a contract until i get that sorted to direct debit, so any more feedback regarding any of these issues over the next few days would be very much appreciated
