ok iv just gone out and bought a data cable for my k700i,its a t68/t39 lead and was told it would work,something was said about making it com port 1,i have the lead installed but no idea where to go from here,im wanting it for sending pics to my pc and mp3s to my phone,also if im brave enough a firmware update as im told mine is vintage

From what i gather, it's not the right cale for a firmware update, but you do know a little patience goes a long way in this day and age.

Did you insert it into the serial (COM) port or the USB port? If it was the USB port, then you will need to install drivers for the DCU-11 cable. You can find these on SE's support pages on the web.

When you have done that, you should install the software from the CD that came with the phone (there are newer versions on SE's K700i support page; if you have broadband you should download these).

To find out which COM-port to use, right-click My Computer, select "Properties", "Hardware" tab, then "Device Manager".
Click the "Plus-in-a-Square" to the left of "Ports (COM & LPT), and look for the DCU-11. Make a note of which COM-port it uses.

Open "Control Panel". Open "Phone Monitor Options", select "COM Ports" tab, find the line with the COM-port you noted, click its line and click "Enable". Click OK.

Now you should be able to use your cable with your phone.

well iv got it to see the phone but when i use the software i got with the phone it goes weird and says error,i take it i cant use the officioal software with a non official lead? any suggestion?
