Belkin F8T001uk v2 (Widcomm) Bluetooth USB Adapter Dongle Not Recognised by the Computer as a New USB Device

I have a Sony Desktop Computer PCV-RX1 with Win XP and SP2 from Microsoft Windows installed (but the dongle was not recognised before or after I installed it). I have no license problem.

I can install the drivers (Widcomm) and the ones from the CD (Belkin) without any problem. But my computer just won't recognised the USB Bluetooth Dongle. Whatever I do, when I plug it in after installing the drivers, it does not recognise a new USB Device.

I tried to Add a new Hardware, using the Widcomm drivers. I also tried with “I Have the Disk” and then point to the BIN folder of the Widcomm or Belkin Drivers on my hard drive (depending on which one I tried). Nothing makes the computer recognise the Bluetooth Device. Any idea?

Note: it works perfectly well with my portable computer which recognised it instantly.

That pretty much suggests your USB port/cable on your desktop is probably not working. Tried another USB device on your desktop?

I have a USB Root hub installed (2 actually), and two other USB devices plugged in (my printer and my ADSL modem). I moved my ADSL modem to another port and plugged the USB Bluetooth dongle there, so the USB ports are not at fault.

Have you tried disconnecting the hubs and going straight in? (Sorry for the mis-post before. Fingers slipped

How will I do that? I am technical minded, but perhaps not that much. What do you mean exactly?

Also, I don't want to disabled all my other USB devices???

He was referring to "root hubs" which are in fact motherboard ports and not separate hubs.

All I can suggest is remove all traces of the the BT driver. Uninstall the widcomm. Search for all the .inf files that refer to Bluetooth and remove them, together with the associated .sys files. Then re-install.

Thank you, I have now solved my problem. The plastic around my USB port prevented the device from being completely inserted. I have plugged the device on the USB port at the back of my computer and it was recognised instantly.
