I recently took out a new contract on Orange and recieved a K700i with firmware version R2C.

From the firmware update service thread, it says Orange phones are supported.

Can someone please tell me if Orange-branded phones can currently be updated to a newer firmware (preferrably R2L) via the Update Service? I would like to know before buying a sync station.

Thanks in advance

I've update my Orange Branded K700 using the online update service... I'm now running R2L. The update went fine using myDSS-25. Took about 15-20mins on a 1meg connection.

Excellent, thanks for the info!

I'm assuming that the R2L firmware is still Orange branded? .... I don't really mind, just want the update to resolve the battery issue.... plus the phone has crashed twice this week.

Cheers,

Yip unfortunately it's still branded! But it has definately improved the battery life! And fixed the shortcuts that perminently sit on the standby screen..

A friend recently bought a k700 on orange, when trying to update it on my PC using my sncstation and the online update it says that there are no services supporting this operator. The firmware is an old one and the batterylife on the phone is rubbish!

Now orange are blocking updates?

Basically after the SU service went down due to technical problems a week or so ago people whos phones had previously been allowed to use it are now blocked.....including Orange users!!!

No Orange is not blocking anything. At present you are not able to update any branded phones and even some non branded ones too.

There has been a problem on the server and currently the system isnt working correctly.

How ever there is no news on when the update system will be back up and running tho.

Got this from another thread (see below).....Looks bad!
I've bought a DSS-25 and a credit for Total Multiserver, but now discover TMS doesn't support the DSS-25...
How can us Orange K700i users do it?

I have tried updating my Orange branded K700i on the
update service but I get a message saying that there is no update for my operator.

Apparently before the update service went down about a week ago there were updates available for Orange K700 users but now many people seem to be getting a similar error to me even if there mobile is unbranded! Please see the later stages of the following thread from www.esato.com (link to this thread).

Sony Ericsson Reply:

With regards to your enquiry, some network operators have banned the use of the update service. The update can instead be done via one of our service locations. Pleae contact our postal service centre ACR Logistics on 01295 662101. The update can be carried out on generic models as we have tested this.

Not that helpful really!
