Hello everybody,

I am a happy (until now, 2 days ) user of a new P910i. Altough my first PXXX phone, and after playing around with a couple of P800, i feel the OS is a bit slow regarding screen redraws.

For example, after loading a couple of apps (including contacts and messenger), when i switch (using the top menu) from messenger to contacts, i can see the contacts and the alfabet tabs beeing redraw ... it is like a second or less but its still noticable.

Is it a faulty unit?

After running JBenchmark on it, i find the results are normal (at least acording JBenchmark site, a tad faster than a P900).

Can someone get me some links of a P900 or P910 symbian usage video? I mean usage of the operating system, that is.

Perhaps its just me ..

Thanks in advance ..

Greetings from portugal!

base on my experience, either you had add/deleted too many contacts and your phone didnt compress it, or you have apps running in the background thats eating up speed. I presumed its the former as you had done some benchmark alredy.

I suggest you install SMAN and do a COMPRESS CONTACT.

This is a common theme. It is unlikely that the reason for your phone being slow is having too much installed or running, as many users a rereporting this and, it was never a problem on the P900 which hard 1/4 of the internal storage space and (some believe) a slower processor.

It looks like a bug in early firware variants that will hopefuilly be solved with a new release.

Please, , sort out the one gripe we have with our beautiful phone

I think it is normal and you are expecting too much from it.

I´m having same experince, it is sometimes very slow response despith no other apps loaded. I hoping an futher firmware upgrade will solve this problem. Sometimes it can take a sec before it open a menu after starting it. I have not many contacts either.

@janptr

Strange, I've not had any real issues with performance except with BT. I have found that if you set the phone to not accept any calls while BT is on and linked to headset when you reactivate acceptance of calls the BT becomes unstable and the menu display is much slower, but after a reboot my P910 returns to its normal speed.

ahem

but can i just saying you are using the most advanced smartphone on the market

it has a 262 THOUSAND! colour screen

and is the most powerful to date

so stop complaining ! (but other than that, if it is really slow, then take it back because it is a lot of money to go to waste if it is faulty!)

I think it's because the P910 has tried to fix the "Apps never close" problem of the P800 and P900.

After a certain amount of time, it shuts down all apps that haven't been accessed... and leaves just the Phone app and Applications app running. So whenever you click on the Contacts app... it has to relaunch it.

Hello,

Thanks to all for the quick answers!

I had SMAN installed and the only 2 apps (besides the ones you cant shutdown) are messenger and contacts. I switch between messenger and contacts a couple of times, and i still notice the screen redrawing and the alfabet tabs redrawing .. it´s less than a second but noticible (i have zoom set to small and have about 150 contacts, not much)

After reading your opinions i´m thinking its common subject and hopping a firmware update will resolve it.

Anyway, i have this firmware:

Phone: CXC162042 R4A006
BT : CXC162028/1 R2C
ORG : CXC162041 R2A17
CDA : CDA162005/3 R2A16

And regarding Jah post, i havent experienced any BT problems so far (only tested with sync, not an headset)

After searching around i found this comment:

http://www.freelists.org/archives/p900/07-2004/msg00001.html

Which might indicate why i feel the OS a bit slow. I´m an IT consultant / programmer and i have an interest in developing some little apps.

Its my first symbian phone, and after a couple of Sony CLIE PDA with PalmOS 5, i might be a bit biased!

Anyways, thank you all for the quick replys ..

I might be overreacting a bit .. but it´s an expensive toy, and if it has a problem, i want a replacement (i bought mine via expansys portugal)
