I have to hand SonyEricsson the award for the most useless and unhelpful website I've ever encountered. It seems every time I've ever gone to use the site for something its turned out to be a total and utter waste of time.
Latest simple task that SE cant handle....
I went to compare firmware versions of my P910i with the what the website said was the latest.
Firstly, no links to update service from P910i product page. So after much brwsing about and going round in circles I finally got to the update page by going to P900 update service and altering the URL from /P900/ to /P910i/. Ok, so I'm there at last.
So I manually check firmware version. I key in mine and it says "the latest version is......" and then nothing is displayed.
Ok, I figured I'd call tech help and ask them. Nice and easy question. I went round every single support, contact, company page and see that they have removed the numbers for any kind of telephone contact now. Have they closed those depts??
So I revert to filling in the 365 day-turn-around help form. I detail the problem I'm having, hit submit and the server fails and my message isnt sent. So f*ck going through all that again.
When I've called their tech help people in the past I've never found one member of staff to be either knowledgable, helpful or friendly.
So Sony Ericsson, your website, your tech staff and your post sales service is piss poor and you suck.
Heres your award you useless muppets.

you're being a bit premature regarding the P910 online update. In the case on P900 and K700 they only added a link to it on the support page when the service was actually ready. There is no link to it now on the P910 support page because its not ready.
Indeed there is a discussion going on today in the
P910i's firmware thread about this (including the fact it doesn't tell you what the latest version is) and it seems they are working on it as we speak.
As for differences in firmware versions, they are usually listed in a document during the uügrade process
personally I find everything I could want on the

support pages and never bother calling their support lines any more because I do have to agree that unless you can get through to a specialist they don't seem to know alot

I have normally been able to find what I want quite quickly from their site. Admitidly they can be a bit slow at updating their support pages. The online contact system seems to work for me ok. I used it a couple of days ago with no hassle.

Ok, so if the updates arent shown or available yet, the professional SE site should of course say so. I'm sure we all agree there however.
Have a look though for contact numbers. I personally am not a fan of "help" pages and "support areas" I prefer talking to people and explaining my problem or having a real person deal with my enquiry. I dont think its too much to offer SE customers the option to physically speak to someone should they not have time to ponce about on websites looking for the right bit of information.
Secondly, theres never an excuse for server malfunctions on webiste the scale of SE.

I agree,

phones are alot better then their site.
I don't like the fact that for some functions on their
site to work you gotto use IE.
I don't wanna use IE I like Opera and Firefox alot better.

I just sent

a question via their online form and it worked perfectly. It also gives the phone number under the "contact" area.

I went to the contact area and it now says
Quote:To contact us by phone:
Please refer to your product user guide - your problem could be described there. If you can't find it, make sure that you have the following available before you make your support call:
Product
Phone model number (click here to see where to find this)
Product user guide
If possible, please call from a phone other than the one with the problem.
Sony Ericsson Customer Service
Sony Ericsson Support Tel.: 08705 23 7237 (UK) 1850545888 (Ireland)
I swear that was not there 10 minutes ago. I blatantly looked at that.

I've always found the SE website to be rather helpful, although I do agree that speaking with a human being is by far preferable to looking at 'support pages' on a website; of course the hassle of getting through the automated systems to the human being is another issue entirely ...
