It will have polyphonic as well as digital audio ringtones. (prob will use midi and WAV files but that is a guess) See the whitepaper on ericcson's dev site for more details.

It's polyphonic. You can also use an MP3 as a ringtone. This post was posted from a T68i

But how many channels will the P800 polyphonic tones have?

The cheap Nokias have 8, i think.

The arriving 7210/6610 will have 24

Many Japanese phones have over 40(!)

Since the phone can play any soundfile as a ringtone (wav, mp3) there is no need to talk about how many tones the phone can play. It plays sounds, not tones.

At least this is how I understand the issue, please correct me if I am wrong!

If it plays sounds/audio files, then there are no use asking for how many tones it plays? Nobody ask how many tones your home stereo plays, do they?

I may still be wrong...

T300 has 24-tone polyphonic ringtones. I don't think that they will make P800 less inferior than that. So my guess would be 24, at least, if not more. Since many Japanese phones have over 40.

But hey, who needs them when you can use mp3 files as ringtones
