The use of images instead of vectorial maps seems like a fast and cheap alternative.
But why can't we use the network cells to calibrate the map?
I would love to have a miniGPS like program with map...

I have used NHGPS and found it a great program. The only thing to bere in mind is that it can only tell you where you are on a map and cant tell you how to get to one place from another. To do this you really need wayfinder.

Didn't test it yet.
Just received my Pxxx & PDA holder for my car (to stick it on to the front window).
Now I can navigate with both my devices

.
But I only have one BT-mouse.
