I got a new p910i because there was a problem with the other one, this 910 was also unlocked like my first was but I noticed I could not send MMS or user GPRS / WAP because some of the settings were not accessible on the phone (locked by Vodafone firmware)

So I got a generic flash from CPW it cost me £20 but they will now do any firmware updates necessary in the future FOC (under warranty terms) as I will not be able to use the online Firmware Update. It was the Vodafone shop that sent me to CPW as they cannot do generic a flash to let me change my preferred settings.

I now have an unbranded SE P910i and I love it!

How did you get it done for free? Normally charge unless bought from them.

The reason mine needed flashing was because some options were locked by Vodafone, this unfortunately is not a good enough reason to get SE to pay CPW for it, for all I care the salesman and the techie got a tenner each but at least I got a Vodafone free phone

Still, free would have been nice too

To be honest, it's not that complicated. CPW is an authorised repair centre and will therefore perform all warranty repairs FW upgrades free of charge providing you have proof of warranty. They're not too discriminating about flashing branded phones with unbranded firmware, as it doesn't make any odds as to whether they get paid or not.

Also, there are only two fixed repair charges (except Smartphone screen damage) of £30 and £75 so if they charged you £20, I'd agree with your guess about the salesman and the techie taking a tenner each!
