> Bluetooth Dongle problem doing my head in!

i kept getting an error message on start-up ( bluetooth stack server not found). i've un-installed it and re-installed, but when i do that, XP installs the drivers and widicom(the dongle manufacurer) disk for the driver installs all the necessary stuff. but then the device isn't found. it says the drivers arent trusted by microsoft and i carry on installation as normall? i'm baffled. i've tried updating drivers nothing is working. any ideas

Do you have XP and service pack 2? If you do you don't need the widcom drivers, XP installs them for itself...
If you don't go to device manager, I guess that it shows a yellow question mark under USB devices. Click update driver, let it search (keep the widcom CD in the drive, just in case), install and restart. I think it may work.

I had the same problem with my D-link dbt120 USB dongle .it doesnt work with the built in XP driver.(no device in witcomm software)
They have a "solution" on that issue posted at the d-link website:

It basically says you need to cancel the microsoft driver installation , and use the drivers on the cd of the manufactorer instead . When the "unsigned"driver dialog box pops up you should choose the "install anyway"option . If ther is no "install anyway" button, you should check your settings in the " driver signing" tab in the system properties of you computer .Change it to "warn first" if it is set to anything else then that.

Did you solve it? My bluetooth works perfectly since I stopped trying to install the program that came on the CD, I have sp2 myself...

YES!!!! It worked. i think i was trying to install Both widicomm and xp drivers and they were conflicting. i was unaware that XP instaled them on its own. works fine now. Cheers!!!1

SP2 might have replaced your previous manufactor driver with the xp native one , so you could try to disable the xp driver and use the manufactor driver instead . To completely kill the xp built in driver and prevent it from automatically installing you can got to your \Windows\inf\ folder and rename the bth.inf file to bth.old
