At the ongoing CTIA Wireless expo in San Fransisco, Audiovox today launched two new additions to its already extensive portfolio, the CDM-8390 and CDM-8940. Both high-end phones, the two new models bring advanced features such as support for high-speed data transfers and high-resolution digital cameras, as well as 18-bit colour screens.
Jumping on the swivel screen bandwagon, the CDM-8930 boasts a stylized clamshell format which harbours a 1.3 Megapixel digital camera, complete with camcorder functionality which allows users to store up to 10 minutes of video. The camera phone also has a macro function, built-in flash and capacity for up to 20 photos that can be e-mailed directly from the handset.
The handset is equipped with a 2-inch, 18-bit TFT colour display capable of showing up to 262,144 colours, a built-in two-way speakerphone, voice activated dialing and CMX 64 polyphonic ringers and stereo sound. Also, the CDM-8930 is Java and BREW capable; can act as a modem transferring at speeds of up to 144 Kbps courtesy of its bundled USB cable; and offers MPEG-4 encoding and decoding as well as two-way MMS/SMS functionality.
The tri-mode handset (800/1900 MHz CDMA, Amps) is CDMA2000 1xRTT enabled and features a MSM6100 chipset which is GPSOne capable (E911 Phase2 Supported), all weighing in at 3.3 ounces and measuring 3.7" x 1.9" and 0.9".
Marking a first for Audiovox, the CDM-8940 brings support for 1xEV-DO to the table, offering data transfer rates of up to 2.4 Mbps and modem functionality courtesy of its bundled USB cable. In addition to its high-speed data capabilities, the phone also boasts dual colour displays, the inner being an 1.9", 18-bit TFT screen whilst the outer display is of similar colour depth and also TFT, although only 1.2".
In addition, the Audiovox CDM-8940 includes a built-in 1.3 Megapixel camera with macro and camcorder functionality, as well as an SD card slot for memory expansion purposes. The Java and BREW-capable handset is dual band (800/1900 MHz CDMA, Amps) and comes equipped with two-way MMS/SMS. Like the CDM-8930, the CDM-8940 also utilizes the MSM6500 Chipset with GPSOne support, and in addition offers voice-activated dialing and vibrating alert.
