Hi,

after calling Vodafone CS on 191 yesterday and asking for an unlocking code...

and a lot of waiting as the guy thought i wanted a PUK code, and speaking to his manager, got back to me saying it will cost £20 to do...

but i swear Masssuer did his for free ?

any ideas ?

Thanks

yeah, I did. I just called the vodafone shop that I bought the phone from and they took my IMEI from me, typed it into their system and gave me the unlock code right away

they had told me in the shop that the phone was not locked so maybe they felt guilty at getting it wrong but I have read a couple of other people here sharing the same experience as me and getting it free

hmm, thanks...

I'll pop into a Vodafone shop one day then, they are ALWAYS packed though

no real rush though as doesn't bother me, only if i was ever to sell my phone a guess....

£20 for PUK? Sounds like something a vietnamese prossie would say!

Either way, I recently needed my PUK, I called Voda CS and actually, I got mine via an automated system. I keyed in my phone number and it then gave me my PUK code automaically and if course free of charge! Saying that though, sounds quite an insecure system doenst it!

sorry for any misunderstands...

but i wanted the unlocking code to unlock my phone, and NOT the PUK code....

so i guess that means i can use other sims cards right ?

I had a p910i from singlepoint, and it was vodafone branded. They told me before the sale that the phone is unlocked, but it was locked. So i asked for a code to unlock it, and they said i need to pay £20. Because it was a few days after i signed the contract, and i said, ok, i have the right to cancel the contract within 14 days, and they gave me the code free at the end.

I thought the operators couldn't charge for you requesting to unlock the phone?

Other than being able to use another network on your phone, is there any other benefit of unlocking?

How do you unlock the phone once you have the code? Do you require a cable or Can you just punch in the numbers on the keypad on your P910i? I asked today at the Vodaphone shop to see if i can unlock my phone and they said they could not do this. I spent half an hour arguing with thim over this and now i have just seen this post!!! I will be ringing Vodaphone Customer Services in the morning!!!
