> {ann} Magic Launcher for UIQ launched )
Bookmark topic
Hi guys,
We created a new small and useful application, hoping you'll like it
Symbian UIQ is a nice graphical user interface, however we all feel the lack of a built-in task switcher and program launcher. Unlike other programs, Magic Launcher works as a part of OS making your work fast and comfortable. The program is tiny and uses negligible resources. You can now easily switch between running applications, start your favorite programs with one button, organize favorites, remap buttons and more!
Magic Launcher supports both FO and FC modes (with limited functionality in FC mode, of course).
In a few words, Magic Launcher = program launcher + task switcher + key remapper + favorites organizer + even more.

Just been giving this a try and it looks to be bloody excellent (especially if your not into full skin front ends like Tracker/HD2005)
Really is worth a try & works well with HD2004 on P910 especially seeing as KeyMapping in HD2004 doesn't work on P910i
Let down by not working in Phone view and Java apps mainly because it appears to also stop the KeyMapping working? Need to try further and ensure its not conflicting with HD2005 even though I disabled KeyMapping in that.

Is this a combination of SMAN and Tracker? This seems a very good application!

Bit more experimenting & the KeyMapping does work. I had it set to menu thinking it would pull up the full feature launcher but its actually the menu of the application which doesn't have launcher as part of the menu in Phone or Java apps.

No, it is not a combination of these two programs; it's a launcher (with many additional possibilities), like one that you use in Windows.

Interesting prog. These guys at Symbian Wave are pretty impressive. Have to admit, though, I'm getting slightly confused about what is the best combination of Handy Day, Tracker, Key Mapper, Sman and now this to use.
All do slightly different things but there is massive overlap between them. Am I right in thinking that, if I use Tracker and Magic Launcher, I basically have no need for any of the others (since I don't really need a program that offers bluejacking as a menu option!)?
Anyone deliriously happy with their particular combo?

Same here. All have merit but no sure fire single winner. I don't think the usefulness of Launcher will work if you use Tracker/HD2005 because they are full screen skins which don't have a standard menu type option.
I would say where Tracker & HD2005 try to give you something different to the UIQ interface this adds significant functionallity to the existing interface and works well with HD2004 which gives you Today/Week views & icon launching.
Probably worth waiting to see the full released version of HD2005 before being able to make a choice.
Not bothered about full skin but find my ideal has bits from HD2004 (Today/Week view), HD2005 (FC) & now Launcher (navigation around phone).

In my opinion, Magic Launcher will be the best choice for those people who don't use desktop applications as Tracker/HD. I myself always loved natural OS interface (since my first Psion 5mx). So, now I can't live without ML

@sw
I'm inclined to agree with you, though your opinion is a little biased!

This app is much more like the lauchers we can find for the Palm OS, something that was missing in this OS.
The desktops in HD and tracker are shortcut pages. I keep going back to the real laucher every time, which is anoying.
Seems like the best combination is:
Magic Laucher + Handy Day 2004 + SMan
BTW, the shorcuts in Handy Day 2004 don't work in the P910.
Disable them and use the KeyMapper control-panel application.
It works pretty well and is separate from the rest of the software.
