I have just spoken to Orange Technical.
And they told me that you can do a firmware upgrade from Sony ericsson's Web site, they have not put a block.
As SE has put a new Firmware for the P910i on the website

http://www.sonyericsson.com/updateservice/P910i/frameset.htm

Question:
Has anyone on Orange tried it yet?

Try this link

Some of the applications crashed after a unsuccessful update, tried several days without solving the problem, do you know how can I speak to a technician of SE? Thank you!

So I guess us Oranges should not try ugrading the firmware yet? Too be honest there is only a couple of things that I think I REALLY need and cant remember whether those that upgraded last week confirmed if there was a benefit
1) Is obvioulsy would prefer a little faster
but
2) More annoying and really would like rectfified-- sound when not in speaker mode.. MYp800 on full volume can be heard from another room on the p910i I can barely hear when not next to ear.

I've been told by Orange that their is no problem upgradeing the firmware.
Problem with "mqzz" you must do a full backup then Upgrade then reinstall the software.

@irfan

You can't do it. The only alternative, which I'm going to try when I get the chance, is to get the phone flashed with generic firmware (I'm going to try and get CPW to do it - as other have reported success there and I bloody work for them!)

And then get them to update the firmware (which I won't be able to do online once I've had the flash, as the Update Service identifies your phone as Orange branded and won't allow updates to non-Orange-approved FW versions)

Otherwise, you're stuck waiting for Orange to release their FW updates via the Update Service, which could be a long wait

Did that make sense?

Hi,

Well I've updated my P900 on Orange no problem, a couple of times in fact as I had a replacement phone delivered the other day. Just make sure you've sync'd and backed up the phone beforehand though and it should be straight forward enough, also make sure you have the phone plugged into the charger too.

Good Luck

Mike
