Bookmark topic
I just got myself a 512 MB Memory Stick Pro Duo card for my P910i. Turns out the card has only 468 MB worth of usable memonry. Is that normal? And, how come so much overhead?
Thanks,
mickb

512mb is unformatted stick. After formatted it's always less.

How come 512 MB are 468 MB? When calculating the usual hard disk thingy (i.e. 512.000 / 1024 instead of 512.000 / 1000), I come to 500 MB. Where's the rest?

Also 468 × 1024 = 479232
479232 ÷ 1000 = 479.2MB!

Did you read the FAT part? It also reserves some memory to it.
It's an index table which allows the OS to access each block.

Every form of magnetic storage memory has this. I mean have a look at your hard drive. Just like someone said already, the OS needs to know where to access data it finds and when you format any kind of storage disk, space will be lost due to that fact.
I do agree though that they should start telling people the formated capacity not the unformatted, but what can yas do.
