are there any disadvantages to taking pictures using the flicker free settings?

I was in rome recently (look at the "Post ur Pics Here" thread) and had flicker free on, without knowing, for the first day.
Basically, flicker free will mean your pics will be much worse in quality, especially if taken at a distance. For example, in Rome, I tried to photograph the colliseum, and it came out all white. No matter how I adjusted my contrast settings, it was simply white. This REALLY annoyed me, and I have no idea why it was doing this. Until, when playing with my settings at brekky the next day, I switched flicker-free off. Suddenly, all of my pics were perfect (or close to it).

All of the pics posted in the "Post ur Pics Here" thread are without flicker free.

Basically, leave flicker-free off unitl you want to take a picture of a screen somewhere.
