i know it doesn't really help you if your on voda - but i just lost my phone and i cant fault the o2 insurance at all. got my brand new replacement p900 less than 24 hours after i lost it.
i'm on the gold cover - £4.99 a month - well worth it.

I was quoted £179.95 per year by vodafone, so unless you loose your phone quite frequently, I wouldn't use this option. If you have an existing household insurance, you should be able to add you phone specifically to your policy, which would work out cheaper.

I made an enquiry with O2 (I also have their 'gold' insurance) to check if the insurance covered other things such as extra memory cards and software that I had purchased - if my phone was replaced, then I'd need new registration codes.
I was initially told that there was no actual documentation (terms & conditions etc.) that they could send me. I couldn't believe that this was the case, since all the other insurance cover I have (car, household etc.) comes with reams of the stuff, which they keep updating and amending.
I eventually spoke to someone who said there was something that they would send. I'm still waiting. I was told, however, that 'accessories' were covered, which ought to include memory sticks, but they'd have to check on the software.
I also wanted to check about water damage, because I know some people that have fallen foul of this restriction on phone insurance.

The terms & conditions on the Voda insurance are not good - far too many exclusions. They can be found on the Voda web site, from the site map. I've just switched to O2 and the insurance looks a bit better, but still far from ideal. I did look at some of the independents, but there are problems with those too.

I have found Orange care to be brilliant. Repacing a handset via House contents insurance is not very good asn they wont replace it with a the same model, just one that was similar.
I broke my PAYG T300 and with the house insurance they would only replace it with a handset that had no email and no IR which I wasn't very pleased about, which made me choose Orange Care.
