> Unlocking my P910i - help required
Bookmark topic
I just got a SE P910i but its locked to vodafone. First thing I am going to try is phoning Vodafone to see if they will unock it for free [worth a try]. In order to unlock the phone do I require the device to be operational with a vodafone sim first? I only have an O2 sim but the phone doesnt work with that, the phone just pops up saying insert a correct sim and I can get no further.
Just wondering if I have to get a vodafone sim in order to turn it on to unlock it.

I phoned Vodafone and explained my 'inocent' sounding situation. The support person had no idea what to do but managed to get the code and gave it to me over the phone for free
Today I am going to CPW to get it flashed...maybe for free too

I just told them how I bought my phone one eBay [which I did] and that I dont have a sim/contract with vodafone. I said that when I put my O2 card in that it says "insert correct sim" etc etc. Eventually they took my handset serial number and then gave me the code for free. I knew exactly what I was talking about but I didnt phone up and say "I want an unlock code for this phone". I decided to be more of a novice on the phone with him in the hope that he would help me out. Worked
However, I think it depends on the person you get at the other end. I probably could have got the code easily from this guy if I just asked for it straight away.

Grrr. I went to the CPW during my lunch hour to find out that the engineer was on lunch hour too! The guy I was speaking to was very reluctant and didnt seem like he wanted to update my phone at all saying that Vodafone don’t like people doing this, and that they should be paid to do it by SE etc etc. I then said, "its my phone so cant I do what I like?" to which he rattled on about being subsidised by Vodafone and that if I got it from Vodafone under a contract then there is no need to get generic software installed. He was very unhelpful. He said that if it could not be done for free then it would cost £30! I said that Vodafone unlocked it [which they did] and that i needed to be able to access the WAP settings. He didnt care and thinks that if i got a Vodafone mobile that i should use a Vodafone card.
I’m steaming mad. I’ve to call them back this afternoon to see if the engineer will do it or not...I’m hoping this guy will be more reasonable.

Hey,
who did you speak to at Vodafone, what option nubmers ?
As i called about a week ago and they wanted to charge me £20 !!!
Might have to say the same thing as you did, but i bought my phone from Vodafone so they would have records of it, and know i didn't buy it from ebay ?

I phoned up the pay as you talk number from the Vodafone website [08700 77 66 55]. I cant remember the options I chose. Something like option 5, then option 1 [I think thats correct]. That took me to an advisor who I then spoke to.
