I am planning to part with my old PocketPC and phone in favour of a P910i.

I use the organiser/PIM functions reasonably extensively on my PocketPC and am trying to understand the major differences I will see in making the move to the P910.

I would value people's observations/comments, particulalry if you are a heavy user of the organiser functions on the P910.

1) I've heard the PC sync is not as robust as ActiveSync - is it reliable or are there serious issues?

2) I've been told to use AquaCalendar and avoid the native PIM application which has bugs in some date settings (anniversaries/birthdays set in contacts etc??). Comments?

3) Are all the fields in Outlook Contacts available, and faithfully reproduced back and forth with the P910?

4) Do repeated appointments in Outlook work properly on the P910? Is there the same flexibility (as PocketPC) in setting repeat patterns eg: every 2nd Tuesday of the month?

5) Does Outlook Notes work properly?

6) Do word and excel files translate back forth reliably?

many thanks....

Yes works perfectly except for no. 3 as I sometimes had problems with certain fields not being synced, but that was with my p900 don't know about p910, everything could only have gotten better. enjoy.

My advice:

If you are comming from a PocketPC (Microsoft) and want to use Outlook (Microsoft) and Office (Microsoft), be prepared to find lack of functionality and compatibility problems with a Symbian OS.

Most of the stuff you need is there, but also lot's of stuff you will find the PocketPC is better when Microsoft applications are concerned.

Outlook sync is limited to some fields, and Office document compatibility ends when you try less common stuff.

The Symbian MS Office editors actually convert DOCs to HTML as their internal format.

Thanks for this insight.

Do the Word & Excel docs convert back and forth without error, does it eventually break when you edit on both platforms??

The Outlook notes works perfectly on mine, mimicing the notes I have on the P910 onto Outlook and vice versa. It even keeps the same Folders (peronsal, business etc)

I only have had my phone for 3 weeks and didn't try any "acrobatics" with Word & Excel, yet!

If a remember well, Word & Excel (?) are translated to HTML and edited as HTML. The original .DOC is untouched.
In Windows you open the new HTML, not the original .DOC.
For more details, why don't you try the QuickOffice web site?

Adenda:
As for office, there also seem to exist two (?) PowerPoint viewers and PDF viewers as well, so it's not so bad.

only had my 910 a few days but there do appear to be limitations to what is sync'd in excell.... 'text wrap' does not seem to transfer onto 910. Formatted doc to maintain limited column width on computer (via text wrap) but reverted to single (long) row on 910.

maybe everything is all right with p 910,but one thing you'll be always more happy with pocket.Screen and its resolution and mainly nowdays when vga ppc has introduced to the market.Think that's a good reason to keep my pocket or even to buy new one. This message was posted from a P900
