- does anybody know what it is good for?

You can use it to master reset you phone. In other words, to get your phone in the same condition it was when you first bought it.

ok, letīs push it a little bit - in this menu you get the option to "personalise SIM-ME", you got the choice between "network" and "network-partition" (Hope thisī the right translation) and in both itīs choice between "MNC2" and "MNC3" as "MNC-lenght"..

Anybody ever heard of these cryptic letters? I think this menu will be found also in other Ericssons?

It is the menu for locking the phone to a particular SIM or to a particular network.

MNC means Mobile Network Code, T-mobile in Germany has MCC (Mobile Country Code) 262 and MNC 01, Telia in Sweden has MCC 240 and MNC 01. MNC length has to do with how th network to which the phone is to be locked is configured.

I strongly advise against fiddling with these settings as you can end up with a phone locked to an undesired network.

The sequence is only jog dial down, *, *, jog dial down BTW

it can also unlock your phone !! I used it to unlock mine once Vodaphone gave me the unlocking code!! I just wish unbranding was as straight forward!!!! Sigh!!
