i just got a com cable (not original) from a guy that didn't need it anymore, is there any way to know if it works with total server before buying any credits?

Only method I know of is, purchase credit, connect cable and choose "Read CID" that way you will know that the cable communicates with phone and server and you won´t "burn" a credit.

You still have to buy a credit. An easier way is to try the cable out with Float's mobile agent. If it works, then you know for sure it's not an unlocking cable. If it doesn't work, then maybe you are slow (hehe), or the cable is broken, or it's an unlocking cable

Also you can open up the cable connector(which attaches to the phone plug) and see if certain pins are connected or not. Check the circuit diagram posted here somewhere.
