Lately I've been recieving pressure to stop posting in the Garbage Forums, and others have too!
What is wrong with the Garbage Forums? It's not like we're trying to raise our postcount, because Garbage posts dont count; we're not trying to ruin the cellphone atmoshpere of esato; we're not trying to do anything bad; and i've never had any pm's from anyone complaining about my garbage posts. In fact, the things i hear about my posts are that people enjoy them cause it gives them a break from the tedium of cell phones.
There was certainly tons of garbage being posted since esato started, why the crackdwon now?
And I mean crackdown as i've heard rumors of bans hanging above peoples' heads and threats to shut down all but a few Garbage threads!
what are your thoughts, people?

I think you're getting in a dangerous position by going public with this.
You say "i've been receiving pressure" and you don't say who was it. Anyway it's a lose-lose situation.
If you don't say who was it, you're implicitly letting people thinking that it was the mods.
If you say who it was, you're revealing private conversations with a possible diplomatic approach which i think, shouldn't be revealed (i say diplomatic, because you say "pressure" and not "threats").

i know what you mean, but its just that ive been talking with other members and they've warned me not to post garbage for the before-mentioned reasons.
I guess i just want to know WHY?

It could be a server space or bandwidth issue maybe?
I have to admit quite a few of my recent posts (although I haven't been posting too much lately due to being busy!

) have been in the garbage/mobile phone free zone myself! Perhaps all the garbage posting is costing Esato/Laffen money?
Just speculation, of course!

my opinion is that there is just toooo much garbage going on and often there is more posting there than in mobile forums. There is not a sudden crackdown. This is a subject I have always felt strongly about and I did a big crackdown some months ago as some members will recall
I also notice a group of people who seem only to come to esato now to post in the garbage and mobile phone free forums and a few throw-away comments in a couple of mobile forums. Surely there are plenty of other chit chat forums where people can go for this
in a community such as Esato its nice to get away from the serious discussions of mobile phones from time to time but the nonesense threads that have been going on lately are just, well, nonesense.
I get the feeling people just sit there thinking up stuff so that they can make a garbage thread and personally I don't like it
I don't want to speak for tranquil now but last week when I expressed my thoughts on this subject he was in agreement and I planned to have a big garbage collection at the weekend but unfortunately something else came up so I only had a little time to start locking a few threads
In future I propose to lock threads more rather than moving them to garbage and letting them go crazy, if only so that garbage doesn't take over esato so much and we can present a more, I dunno, professional and serious appearance as a mobile phone forum where frivolity and such take a smaller part in the daily goings on.
I can say that I do let garbage go on more at the weekends when people are supposed to chill and relax but during the week I would like to see alot less of it
This is only my thoughts and the other moderators may have their own but I'll be interested to hear more opinions about this and I'm happy to be guided somewhat by those opinions

Well, since we meet more often in the garbage forums, I'd like to react too.
I don't see anything wrong in the Garbage Forum, it's pure amusement for me and a real stress reliever! I think it's perfect the way it is. Sometimes though I admit that it tends to get out of hand but other forums do too and that's practically the reason why there are moderators.
There's nothing we can do if the moderators decide to remove it but I believe it's going to be a bad idea, I mean where will you put all the garbage? Even a clean house needs a place for the garbage.

The reason Sammy mentioned is valid, although i don't think its the main reason.
I think that "they" just want to avoid this forum to go out of track. This is mainly a cellphone forum. For people to post questions, and others help them out.
The garbage forum goes way out of that objective. And making it the main section is not a good thing to happen.
[EDIT]
As i was writing this, masseur posted his opinion.
I guess i was right.

I can't imagine bandwidth or server space being the issue. If that was the case there would be restrictions on the images being uploaded to esato which presumably consume far more of both these valuable things

But hasn't Garbage been an integral part of the esato forum atmosphere? I mean yeah, we're quite useless, but what's the point of restricting garbage posts to such an extent?
Is it that bad to have some fun on a mobile phone forum? There's plenty other forums out there, yes, but we will agree that there is only one esato. On top of that, all of those forums have their own nonsense sections, too!
I mean, if its costing laffen an extra 500 dollars a month to run, ok i see the point in cutting down on the Garbage forums. But garbage as always been present on esato (if you take little tour through the garbage section you will see

) and it hasn't hampered esato's growth as far as i know of.

But then what's the point of the Regional Forums? I can similarly say that i see users mostly post in the Regional sections (ie. 7wcsnurka, missuk, mkush, lost angle, etc.). The biggest threads on esato are threads with just general chit-chat, nothing really mobile-phone related!
Even vlammetje (another veteran) usually only posts in her themes thread and the UK users thread...
And what else are garbage threads than Garbage? At least its funny nonsense!

true, but none of the garbage forums have the kind of posts that go on in the general chatrooms or the regional forums. and garbage forums i believe are only a small percentage of the total number of posts.
sometimes the general forums can be too tedious... and honestly, since this is an online community, people have interests other than just about mobile phones. the difference between esato and other forums is the fact that members have a common interest about mobile phones then move onto other topics.
its completely upto the mods to move/lock any thread that might seem dubious... i.e things like flaming each other or seemingly inane threads that have been started.
but, the garbage forums have been an integral part of esato, and i would love to see it that way.
kim... don't think u should succumb to the pressure. because what you post is your opinion, and no one can stop it...unless u are offending other members. which i personally think you are not (yet?

).
EDIT: kim posted it as i was typing...
