I thought that 900 was just a European/Asian thing, no? I thought US was just 850/1900. Am I mistaken?

It's the 850 and the 1900 band. Cingular never have and never will utilize the 900 mhz band. Doesn't exist in the States for Cellular communications.

Yes it does Excist but for T-mobile and AT&T
but since at&t and cingular are same company now the 900mhs phone now work with cingular sim cards

I HAVE TESTED IT MY SELF before posting this msg

i have a t610 and a t616 both phones
t610 900 1800 1900
t616 850 1800 1900

my cingular sim works in both now (but it didnt before)

in a 900mhs phone it will say cingular Extend, but you can make and recive calls

you are missing the point, the T610 is still using the 1900MHz band on either the Cingular network or roaming onto a 1900 MHz band on T-Mobile's. I don't know what is different in you SIM, but no U.S. carrier has 900MHz

The frequency spectrum was occupied by other services in the states. It was not available for gsm band 900. Operators need to get licenses for frequencies before they can launch systems. This message was posted from a Z1010

no i dont think so
since the only diference between the phones is 850 or 900

because few months ago i couldnt use a cingular card on my t610 (and it still has 1900) it would say cing extend and when i diald 611 it said welcome to AT&T and i couldnt make calls and i couldnt recive calls, but now since they merged it still says cing extend and when i dial 611 it says welcome to cingular and at&t and i am able to make and recive calls

its cause cingular uses ONLY 850 mhz
att and t-mobile use 900 1800 1900

few years back i was able to use t68i/t610 with t-mobile in my area
and way back like 4 years ago i was useing t28 with t-mobile back then america didnt even know what gsm was

so you gonna tell me i was useing a 1900 band ? and there is no 900 band in USA ?
att and t-mobile owns some 900 bands

Cingular uses 850 and 1900 as does ATT. T-Mobile only uses the 1900mhz band. There is no 900 in the US. Cingular/ATT overlays the 850 with the 1900. Your 900/1800/1900 band phone is using the 1900 band on Cingular/ATT. That's it.

Cingular uses 850 and 1900 as well as AT&T. While T-mobile uses 1900 only. If you wanted too, research further before saying this because you can misled other people. You can ask a lot of people here or even cingular.

The reason for the change? CINGULAR BOUGHT AT&T!!! The 900mhz is irrelevant to you being able to use both the t616 and t610 now!!
