what is the difference between EDGE technology and WI-FI?are they the same or not?

I think with a firmware upgrade to the P910 might make it possible to roam Wi-Fi hotspots.

they work on really different frequencies.
edge is something thats provided by a mobile operator and his data services, whereas wi fi is provided by an internet service provider and a wi fi transmitter (router).

im thinking to buy this phone for my wife, but what do you think of it? is it worth it? is there anything in the pipeline from SE that i should wait for?
in general, how does the S700 compare to its competitors from other brands like samsung, nokia and siemens?
