Isn't there a better version of this with a built-in mic already?

I haven't seen that one with a mic but a few people suggest the sp8aa if you want a mic though I am not sure where they are available

Expansys has them with and without a mic. I got the one without because I was lead to beleive that the phone's microhone would still function with the sound going to headphones. So I could just talk into the phone held upside-down, like, well, a microphone!

It doesn't, which is a pain. So if I receive a call, I have to unplug the jack to talk.

The version with a built-in mic is still very short though, which seems a bit odd really.

It looks extendable to me mate, I dont think you have to hold the whole lot close up to your ear!

Sorry, I meant the adaptor with mic that's on Expansys, not the one linked above. I couldn't be bothered before, but I got the links now:

Without mic:
http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=113091

With mic:
http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=108427

This site has lots of very similar looking adaptors like these, and I'm not sure which are most suitable for P9xxx.

The without-mic one linked is the one I bought. As you can see in the description, it says "...while enabling the internal microphone..." and I found a forum post confirming this for P900, but it doesn't work like that for me.

Is there any difference in sound-quality when using the simple short-wire converter (without mic) from ipaqrepair/expansys vs. the SP8AA from pc-mobile.net

The lSP8AA looks nice, but is it good qualit (with the added complexity of volume-control mic, retract-mechanism etc) ?

BTW: I'll be using it with the Sony MDR-EX71SL

I have used one of those when I had an SPV handset and it works. Does exactly what it says on the tin!
