I have a Vodafone prepaid.
For some weeks I receive calls from all over Europe for a certain guy.
Some will say that my friends are playing a joke on me. However this is not the case.
I called the helpdesk in The Netherlands and asked them this specific same question. So the lady asked what my mobile number was and I told her. After I told her what my name was and the name that those people wanted to speak to she told me that both the other person(who has an 12 months contract) and I did have the same number.
So now they are going to investigate how this was possible.

In my opinion there is only one possibility and that is that vodafone used an old number for prepaid(in holland they do so after the old number has expired for a year or so)

In meanwhile i keep getting those calls

cheers

I think you got it spot on there! Really wierd though. But I guess they need to reuse old numbers! They'll run out one day.

Well it is not that hard to have controll over the numbers... The operators can send a self destruction signal to your sim.. In this way they can be positiv that nobody have the same number... A very emberrasing situation for Vodafone... This should not happen..

In some countries you could actually sue them for negligence.

I don't think so. Considering that there are a million possiblities in just the last six digits - and mobile numbers are usually 10 digits long or more, I doubt that any operator can run out of numbers! The more possible explanation could be that they made a mistake in allocation.

In Finland the oldest operator will release unused number to use six months after the subscriber has disconnected the sim.

Its not a bad thing only the number can reseave some odd calls from the frends of the old user.

The numbers in this operator have been out for 14years so all the best numbers have been taken. By releasing them after 6 months the new costumer can enjoy a good and easy to remember number.

I also have a prepaid voicestream here in ny, and I had the same problem, I even got calls from some girls that sound hot, but they weren't asking for me. But they have to re-use the numbers, otherwise they'd run out

It used to happen when prepayed first started lots of people got given same numbers- there was a lot of publicity about it! I didn't think it would happen anymore.
