Unfortunately there are a few viruses/trojans out there for phones these days. When SimWorks first launched its anti-virus solution in June this year there was only Cabir which at worst drained your battery life. Now with things like the Mosquitoes trojan and more recently the Skulls trojan (this is a nasty one) starting to arrive phone anti-virus is becoming increasingly relevant.
If you look at the stats for SimWorks Anti-Virus on Handango, Symbos and SoftwareCellulari.it you'll see that its the top selling Symbian AV app at each site (beware the misleading download stats - downloads are not sales, apps are displayed in order of actual number of sales however) and there is some good feedback there from users that have purchased the application as well.
I hope this helps. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact me.
Best regards,
Aaron Davidson.

I've not yet heard of a UIQ virus. That mosquitos one was only for Series60.
I don't believe the threat to be great enough to need to BUY anti-virus s/w and they don't even offer a trial so u can try it out first!!
I think they saw an opportunity to make people panic & buy unneccessary s/w

I agree. There is no need to buy an AV for PXX owners. There are no viruses for UIQ devices so far 'cause they are not so popular like Series 60 ones (Nokia remains the most popular manufacturer amongst masses... and the masses are the most favourite target for viruswriters)

Here's a post from another thread about the skulls 'virus':

Users with Symbian-based mobile phones have been hit by malicious code that disables smartphone features. Skulls, a Trojan horse program that poses as gaming software, is one of the first examples of malicious code to successfully infect mobiles.
Skulls began infecting users after copies of the malware were posted on some Symbian shareware download sites by hacker called "Tee-222", Finnish anti-virus firm F-Secure reports. Skulls commonly poses as an application called "Extended Theme Manager". If installed on mobile phones running Symbian OS, Skulls will render the smartphone features of the phone useless by deactivating messaging, net access and other apps. The malware replaces application icons with a picture of a skull, hence its name.
F-Secure warns recovery of damaged functions can be difficult, especially if users don't have a third-party file manager software already installed on their mobile. Anti-virus software for Symbian Series 60, available from a number of anti-virus firms, is able to detect and remove Skulls.

Is this again just for Series60 or UIQ too.
It all sounds scary but if u think about it, it's not going to do any lasting damage if you can remove it with a file manager!!
Even in worst case scenario you may need to do a master reset & format the disc!
Nooooo, the horror of it all! Then u'd simply restore the phone from your PC backup.
Do we need to fork out for anti-virus s/w.......NO!
Especially as reading that suggests it doesn't even stop the virus installing but simply removes it again, which u can do yourself with a file manager!

Yep, just more proof that these people just make people panic by thinkin if there's anti-virus s/w there must be a threat & we all need to buy this app.
