Hello, I am new to this board. I currently own a T610 (T-Mobile). I uses SMS for my business, however the T610 ringtones for messages are horrible. They are short and pretty much inaudible. What's the point of SMS or any messages for that matter if I am not alerted when they arrive. So, I had to go out and get a seperate At&t phone (Siemens) strictly for SMS. I like the fact that you can set any ringtone for your messages alert, not to mention you can have the vibrate feature work at the same time(with a choice of vibrating styles)...and it's loud!! T610 seems to have seperate ringtones for messages(once again horrible) and it seems that I can't import new ones.. I need to upgrade to a smartphone anyway and I was wondering.
1. does the P910 have good ringtones for messages and are they a descent length and loud!
2. can you use the vibrate feature in conjunction with a ringtone set for messages 3. are there different vibrate styles (pulse, constant etc..)
4. can you choose ANY ringtone and set it for your messages alert and import new ones.

Carrying around 2 phones is not where it's at! I need to get a smartphone a.s.a.p with the hopes that I will be able to receive SMS alerts loud and clear.

I appreciate your time and any info on the subject would be extremely helpful before I make a purchase. Thank you.

On my P900, I have a "you got text messages" for my sms. For my email I have the "you got mail" same one they use on AOL. Also vibrate at the same time.

I use the Nokia "beep beep" SMS tone, but I processed it on the PC to make it VERY loud and it's superb.

When it goes off, you hear it for miles.

If anyone wants a copy (Wav file, 77Kb) then PM me and I'll mail it to you.

Works a treat ......

Hmm i use the A Team theme tune for my SMS tone notification. It is an MP3 tune as well and wakes up people on the train to and from work!!! Wonderful fun!!!!!

I Love it when a plan comes together !!!!

To answer your questions:

1. The P910 ringtones for messages are adequate, decent (subjective, really) & loud (dependent on you phone's volume setting) - though you'll find most people will download/install their own sounds/mp3 audio clips to personalize!

2. Yes, the vibrate feature works with messages.

3. No different vibrate styles.. just one (kinda a triple pulse), or so that I've noticed..someone correct me if I'm wrong.

4. Yes, you can choose ANY ringtone and set it for your messages.. albeit only 1 tone is assigned for ALL incoming SMS messages & 1 tone is assigned for E-mail & 1 tone is assigned for MMS. They call all be the same or each unique.

Additional note:

I also use "S&W SMS Tones++ v1.0" by Soft & Wireless, which lets you assign individual SMS Tones to each of your contacts in your phone. So my default is the phone default, (which I took a sound bite out of StarCraft, where the human computer says "..Receiving Incoming Transmission, Comlink Established.."), but like my girlfriend's SMS tone is a sound bite from Darth Vader in Episode VI where it says .."..You Don't Know The Power of the Darkside.. I Must Obey My Master..".

This way If I get a text message, I already know who it's from and if it neads to be read immediately or it can wait. (BTW, I'm currently in the Philippines on a job project and boy, do the cell users out here LOVE SMS! Text is SO prevalent that customizing my SMS tones was more handy than customizing my incoming call tones, as they don't make calls much..must be too expensive.)

Here's a link through My-Symbian.com for those interested in the program ->Product Information - S&W SMS Tones++ v1.0 by Soft & Wireless
The program is kinda old and was written by its creators for the P800, but it still works on my girlfriend's P900 & my P910i. The program works well, but occasionally under low memory conditions, the program turns itself off..maybe due to the phone freeing up memory for other processes. So sometime you need to restart the program.
