I would guess that because iChat tries to connect over ports other than 80 (web) and 110 (email) your requests are being blocked.
Maybe your provider blocks these ports (and many others) for security or other reasons.
Only a guess!!

but i can connect to AIM/YM using Agilemessenger with no problem. if t-mobile is restricting only to port 80, then i shouldn't be able to connect to AIM from either Agilemessenger or BT, right?

Does Agile Messenger connect directly to each of these chat networks or does it go through a web-based proxy?
Again I'm only guessing, but maybe Agile Messenger connects via port 80 to their own server first then from their severs to the proper chat servers?
Is there any way you can check that? I looked on their web-site but it doesn't say how it works...
Have you tried connecting via other chat clients on the Mac?

i thought for sure agile uses ports like 5050, 5190...
i tried other chat clients like yahoo messenger and MSN, but they failed as well.
i swear i was able to connect once before to iChat/AIM/YM using BT. i just don't know what changed since then.
