I managed to snag a Sony High-Speed 1G Memory Stick Pro Duo yesterday after putting in an order for some 512mbs for a m8. I assumed it would have arrived a bit sooner then that, but this is early enough for me. It's not a shocker that this 1G pricing is super inflated though. I only managed to get one at a little less then 140 GBP, so Sony will be making a killing on it until competing manufacturers start to release them. It does save the convenience of having to purchase several 512mbs though which at this point I already have 4 of including (35) 128mb MSDs. However, I'm not quite sure what this means in terms of utilization. I'm still waiting for software developers to take advantage of the expanded memory potential of the P910.

With that said, I wonder what lies in store for the P910. Being that I've already maxed out its capacity I wonder if SE will leave larger media capacity potential to its successor. I'm guessing by the time a 2G + MS Pro Duo gets released (more likely Q2-Q3 of 2005) it will be right in time for the P910 successor to start making waves in mobile news.

On the other hand, those spare MSDs (128mb - 512mb) laying around the house will come in handy for a soon to be released Sony toy... I'm expecting to grab my MSD PRO compatible Sony PSP in exactly 3 1/2 weeks. It's amazing that Sony is only packaging it with a 32 MSD, but that shouldn't pose an issue for most Pxxx owners that more likely already have a few around. So keep those MSDs around for keeps sakes. I'm sure you'll find good uses for them as I will in my case.

Good work my man! I'm looking for one here in Malaysia, but I think it's not selling just yet. Expect the price to be very expensive, around 2000 ringgit, 3/4 the price of P910!!

The listed retail price from Sony is about $300 USD. However, I got it a bit cheaper then that.. Sony is the only manufacturer that has released one thus far. As far as you P900 you can sell it where everything that can be sold is sold...

Other than using one in a vid camera, what is the purpose of having a 1 gig MSDP? They do not work in the Pxxx series phones, nor the s700, and it does not look like SE will adopt the higher standard anytime soon, so I can not see the reason to purchase one, not to mention that it has been said that SE will start to use SD cards. Cheaper, and more universally accepted.

I kinda like the MS Duo format and you can use a 1GB Ms Duo Pro in the P910.

@sapporobaby... the P910 and V800 both use memory stick PRO duo cards and if I still had either of those I would be after the 1gb card for sure. Actually I am still after a 1gb PRO duo as my sony camera takes those too and 512mb just isn't enough any more

One thing I have learned in 25 years of IT and a few years before that with 'pc's like commodore pet and Tandy TRS-80, is that you can never have enough storage.

my iPAQ currently has a 1gb SD card and a 2gb compact flash but this weekend I just ordered a 4gb compact flash and will order the 2gb SD as soon as I can find one again, and I still think I won't be satisfied that I have enough music and videos with me!

masseur, why not get the 12GB CF card? They've been out for a little over a month already.

there are limits to what I will be spend

4gb compact flash have cvome down to around 150 pounds on ebay now and thats acceptable

I've looked at the 4gb and 5gb mini HDD drives but a) they are slower and b) consume more power so although cheaper I choose not to buy them

anyway I guess thats a tad off topic but it would be nice to see 1gb PRO duo readily available before Christmas
