There is a program that does a good job. It's not freeware though
Power MP3 Cutter there is a trial version
It's fairly straightforward to use.

If you have windows it has a cutting program. start; programs; accessories; entertainment; sound recorder. Just encode your mp3's to WAV, (you can find encoding freeware by using a search engine) open the newly encoded WAV file in sound recorder, with the slider find where you want the clip to begin then go into edit and select "delete before current position". After you do that slide the slider to where you want the clip to end then go back into edit and select "delete after current position". Now save it, then go into you encoder and encode it back into mp3. good luck.

@obisixx there's too much to work :) the easiest way is to use sonic sound forge, just a few clicks :)

do a websearch for a simple, free programme called WavePad, I used it. It's really good for trimming MP3s.
It's a pity that some polyphonic ringtone providers (O2 being one of them) don't bother to cut down the MIDI file and leave you with a ringtone that is effectively just the introduction to the song.

I use nero wave editor to clip the mp3 and save them as Mono, 56kbps, 44100 Khz MP3Pro files. These sound better than MP3 files at similar settings... wanna sample it? check my home page
