> S700i camera light as a Torch

As the subject above suggests ..does anyone have a way to use the camera light as a torch..i.e without opening the shutter...something like in nokia.

I don't think there is a way to activate the light without activating the camera. Perhaps this is something that SE could look at for a future firmware update.

Try, the service menu. You could turn in on without opening the lens cover.

Maybe the flash on it isn't supposed to be used as a torch?
I noticed it is a lot brighter than other phones with a torch

On K700 you have to go to the camera but it's easier to activate as u just press 5.
If u activate it in Service Menu it flashes rather than constant light

I know that flashes in cameras are not meant to be used constantly otherwise they burned out. But in mobiles? They can burned out if used at the same principal.

It's covered by warranty for a year anyway so it doesn't matter!
Do u turn the screens backlight off so the LEDs don't burn out? NO!

Oh yes it can. Two things will burn a LED:
1) Too high a current, there is a max limit above which instantaneous heat production will destroy the chip.
2) A current high enough (but below the max limit) that the heat produced will not be able to dissipate on the long term, the temperature of the LED then increasing slowly but steadily. Of course, if the on/off ratio is small (like in a series of flashes), the peak current at which the heat will not dissipate fast enough is greater than if the LED is continuously lit. Blinking LEDs do take this into account in order to maximize the light emitted during a flash, and the current allowed is over the max value if the LED was burning continuously.
